‘Ashi Ghadali Rajaswini’ by Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Vijay Devgoji is truly a treasure of cultured, value-based letters.

At a very young age, Rajaswini went to Rajasthan through Navodaya education. With her parents’ values and her own hard work, she eventually reached the prestigious post of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) through UPSC. This book brings together the letters written to young Rajaswini by her mother, father, brother, grandparents and uncle while she was away.

The first section contains the letters written by her mother, lovingly addressing her as “Madhuliya”. Every word is overflowing with affection and guidance. Each letter carries the fragrance of the Konkan soil, the sound of rains, the family happenings, and above all, deep values.

Family Letters

The mother sends questions of general knowledge, advises reciting holy texts like Ramraksha, and suggests what books to read. She writes about daily happenings, festivals, seasons, and even reminds her daughter to take care of her hair, sleep and diet. Every word reflects a mother’s love and longing for her child far away.

The father’s letters are equally heartfelt. He calls her “Madhuli”, “Chimani”, “Pillia”, expressing pride and instilling courage: “In any field you choose, reach the topmost level.” He gently corrects, guides, and boosts her confidence with every reply.

The brother’s letters too are full of affection, support and friendship. He openly guides her about life’s confusions, warns her against distractions and assures her that he stands behind her in every situation.

Letter snippet

Even grandparents and uncles wrote letters rich in culture and love. Little Madhulika’s own replies are innocent and honest. She even lists out things to bring for her during visits, revealing her childlike charm.

From such letters, we witness how an ordinary girl was shaped into a successful IRS officer in 2019. These letters are true witnesses to her journey.

In today’s age of social media, letters are rare. A WhatsApp or Facebook message may connect us quickly, but they rarely carry the depth and soul of a handwritten letter. This book shows how letters can shape a life.

This book is a must-read for parents, teachers, students and anyone who values nurturing and inspiration. Every letter in it has the power to touch hearts and shape futures.

  शिक्षकदिनादिवशीच किशोर पाटील या विनाअनुदानित शिक्षकाने घेतला अखेरचा श्वास. करणखेडा ता- अमळनेर जि- जळगाव ते पुणे-कोल्हापूर परतीचा प्रवास करताना अतिशय दुःखद अंतःकरणाने लिहितोय. ज्या माणसासाठी शेकडो किलोमीटरचा प्रवास करून आम्हीं भेटायला गेलो तो माणूस त्या सकाळीच निघून गेला होता. आम्हीं तिथे संध्याकाळी पोहोचल्यानंतर कळालं की, सर सकाळीच निघून गेले. सर आजारी आहेत म्हणून त्यांना पाहण्यासाठी माझ्या गावापासून म्हणजे पांगिरे ता भुदरगड जि कोल्हापूर येथून दुपारी ३ वाजता मी आणि माझी थोरली बहीण बाहेर पडलो गाड्या बदलत दुसऱ्या दिवशी संध्याकाळी ६.:३० वाजता जळगाव जिल्ह्यातील अमळनेर तालुक्यातील करणखेडा या गावी पोहोचलो. तिथे पोहोचण्यासाठी तब्बल २७ तास ३० मिनिटांचा आणि सुमारे ८०० कि. मी. चा हा प्रवास करताना फक्त मनात एकच आस होती की,ज्यांच्याबरोबर आजपर्यंत फक्त फोनवर बोलणं व्हायचं त्या सरांना एकदा जवळून प्रत्यक्षात पाहता येईल. ..पण सरांना प्रत्यक्षात पाहणं आमच्या नशिबातच नव्हतं..आम्हीं पोहोचण्याच्या अगोदरच सर या जगातून निघून गेले होते.आम्हीं पोहोचलो आणि समोर सरांचा मुलगा पारसला बघून मन...
